iPod Minimize

iPod Issues

Everyone has had them, varying from hang ups to full scale issues, this guide will help you with as many problems as I can. Starting with the basics all the way up to varying scans and hidden options.

Resetting an iPod
Is your iPod hung up on a song or frozen, doing this will restart your iPod, without any
music loss, unless your iPod needs even more help than just a reset.
  1. Slide Hold to On
  2. Slide Hold to Off
  3. Hold both the Menu and Select buttons
  4. Wait until the Apple logo shows up and the iPod finished booting

Putting your iPod in Disk Mode
To put your iPod in disk mode, in case your computer is having problems mounting the iPod,
follow these steps.
  1. Connect your iPod to a non-PC power source to ensure it is has a charge.
  2. Reset the iPod by following the above steps.
  3. When the Apple logo appears hold down Select and Play.
  4. This places your iPod into Disk Mode.
  5. Disconnect it from a power source, and connect it to your PC and it will mount.

Entering TRAMPASS mode
This gives you many options, from HDD Scans to Drive Temperature.
  1. Connect your iPod to a non-PC power source to ensure it has power throughout the intensive
    scan.
  2. Reset your iPod by following the above steps.
  3. When the Apple logo appears hold down Back and Select until a backwards Appple logo appears.

Hard Drive Scans
To perform a hard drive scan to check if your HDD is corrupt or has surface errors follow
these steps.
  1. Connect your iPod to a non-PC power source to ensure it has power throughout the intensive
    scan.
  2. Reset your iPod by following the above steps.
  3. When the Apple logo appears hold down Back and Select until a backwards Appple logo appears.
  4. Scroll down using the Forward and Back buttons to reach the option of HDD Scan.
  5. Select it using the Select button, and depending on the size this can take a while.
  6. Check back for the results after the test.

  12. Smart Data
  13. HDD Scan
  14. Read Serial Number
  15. Diskmode
  16. Wheel
  17. Contrast
  18. Audio
  19. Status
  20. Drive Temperature
  21. IRAM Test
You can exit TRAMPASS mode by resetting it, or putting it into sleep and waking the iPod.

Updating/Restoring your iPod
To update your iPod's software, or restoring your iPod, follow these instructions.
  1. Download the lastest iPod Updater software from Apple's website.
  2. Follow the install directions, it usually involves a restart.
  3. Connect your iPod to your PC and let it mount.
  4. Either click the option to Update or Restore.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions. Restore usually involve a firmware reflash from
    a non-PC powersource.
RESTORING YOUR iPOD WILL LOSE ALL MUSIC AND FILES ON THE iPOD.

Other Important Issues
  • Make sure your Media for your iPod is up to date, that is iTunes, EphPod, etc.
  • Make sure your iPod has a charge.
  • Make sure the cords are secure and actually connected.
  • Try restarting your computer.
  • Test other USB/Firewire ports.
